New cultivation systems based on legumes for cereals farms producer in Puglia

Obiettivi
Objectives

The project aims at improving profitability, competitiveness and sustainability of cereal farms in the
Puglia region by favouring the alternation of legumes to cereals with positive effects on the soil
fertility in terms of nitrogen and organic matter. Experimental activities will be focused on chickpeas,
fava beans, lentils and peas with innovations meant to touch the entire chain, from farms to processing
activities.

Activities

The project focuses on the selection of optimal varieties of legumes and on the development of
cultivation techniques and protocols dedicated and specifically calibrated for the territory of the
Tavoliere and Alta Murgia. In addition to this, it provides for the experimentation and development of
innovative technologies for the selection of legume grains for use in industry, aimed at the production
of gluten-free foods and / or with particular functional characteristics. In addition, the implementation
of economic analyzes (market, demand, supply chain) is expected, ensuring the effective and full
usability of the experimental results even in the reality of the market.
