Competitiveness and sustainability of the cultivation of pomegranate in Puglia

Obiettivi
Objectives

Cosmel focuses on the valorisation of the production of pomegranate in Puglia, where the pedoclimatic conditions are particularly favourable to the growth of this crop and for the production of
pomegranates of excellent sensory, nutritional and functional qualities, which are fully included in the
of so-called category of “super foods”. Agronomic techniques and innovative processing and
conservation systems will be developed, and at the same time "sewn tailor-made" on the Apulian
pomegranates, aiming to the production of excellent quality fresh fruits and of shelled arils ready to
use.

Activities

The general objective of the project is to improve the competitiveness and profitability of the
pomegranate supply chain in Puglia. The enhancement of the crop will be pursued through the
development and transfer of planting, cultivation and defense techniques, with the aim of improving
the results of production both in quantitative and qualitative terms, and then continuing with the
development point of technologies to prolong the conservation of the fruit and encourage its
consumption through the development of ready-to-use arils.
