PEI-AGRI

Evaluation of innovative adaptation strategies in vineyard and winery to the climate change

Obiettivi
Objectives

The project, based on a systematic approach on both levels of the production chain, winegrowing and oenolgy, aims to transfer to manufacturers effective solutions, already tested in the process of "prototyping" to counter the impact of climate change, to limit the release of pollutants, to improve water quality and soil, and to control the adversity with agronomic techniques with low impact on the environment.

Activities

The project is composed in 2 different ACTIONS, each including 3 activities (experimental tests): ACTION 1) Application of sustainable methods and techniques to contrast climate change in
viticulture: 1) Late pruning; 2) Green management 3) Application of kaolin on canopy vines.
ACTION 2) Implementation of innovative winemaking techniques: 1) Use of low temperature associated with inert gas, 2) The adoption of selected yeasts in a rational and conscious way.

Pratice abstract
Description

Expected results: Reduction of vines susceptibility to abiotic, pathogens and insects stresses; Quality improvement of grapes and wine; Release reduction of polluting substances and improvement of water and soil quality. Main benefits/opportunities: Direct transfer of innovative practices reconciable with times and production methods of farms and wineries. Specific operational protocols of vineyard and winery management to satisfy specific needs of enterprises involved in this project. These protocols indicate processes, products, quality and risks indicators and they represent best management strategies in vineyard and winery for the mitigation of problems created by climate change; Training of personnel company about operational protocols and parameters useful to quality control of finished products; Involvement of production quality level with particular reference to finished product, through protection and consolidation of the typical production in different areas of the Region.
