PEI-AGRI

Development and application of innovative microbial consortia for cereals to increase nutrient use efficiency and cope with biotic and abiotic stresses

Obiettivi
Objectives

The project aims to stimulate the innovation in rural areas by developing and applying microbial consortia used as biofertilizers on bread wheat. Specifically, the project aims to increase the nutrient use efficiency of wheat, its ability to copewith biotic and abiotic stresses related to climate change, to improve soil fertility, reduce the use of mineral fertilizers, increase crop productivity and improve yield quality. Furthermore, the project aims to train qualified operators to support and disseminate the transfer of innovation in the Liguria Region.

Activities

(1) production of microbial consortia useful as biofertilizers and their use in  field on bread wheat genotypes; (2) testing of  biofertilizers in three farms  (conventional, transition to organic and organic systems); (3) assessement of nutrient use efficiency, morphological and physiological parameters of the crop, including pathogen attacks and analysis of quality of grain and processed products; (4) determination of microorganisms in the roots by morphological and molecular tools; (5) training of qualified operators to assist  farmers in the biofertilization practice; (6) dissemination and exploitation of results.

Pratice abstract
Description

Development and application of microbial consortia to be applied as biofertilizers on bread wheat genotypes in conventional and organic farms to increase  nutrient use efficiency and to cope with biotic and abiotic stresses. The application of microbial consortia will lead to an increase in the production and quality of grain and bread.
