An integrated approach based on biostimulants for the sustainability of agricultural productions
INBIOS aims to demonstrate, promote and communicate the use of biostimulants, plant resistance
inducers and low-impact strategies, as a driving force for sustainable agricultural production .
The specific objectives of the Plan are:
- Reduction of pollutant released and improvement of water and soil quality through improved
nitrogen use efficiency;
- Reduction of the use of plant protection products in the field through the combined use of microorganisms having elicitation of the plant's natural defenses with decision support systems (DSS);
- Adaptation of agricultural cropping systems to climate change through biostimulants combined with
DSS models for optimizing irrigation events.
The project activities will be done on tomato, corn and grape, using a strategy that integrates
biostimulants of microbial origin (mycorrhizae, trichoderma and rhizosphere bacteria) together with
non-microbial biostimulants (hydrolyzed proteins).
Trials are planned over two seasons (randomized blocks), together with a test on a larger scale ("on
farm"). The use of biostimulants will be integrated by DSS decision support systems for optimizing
interventions and reducing chemical inputs (both nitrogenous and agrochemical fertilizers, compared
to the "traditional" approach).
The results will be disseminated to farmers, technicians and stakeholders.
