Environmentally friendly innovative crop protection strategies, residual mixtures management and updates on water needs for a sustainable fruit production

Obiettivi
Objectives

This plan has the objective of bring innovation in the production of pome and stone fruits in integrated and organic farming. The success achieved at the end of the production season is the sum of actions that intersect each other and reflecting products delivered to consumer.
Today it is a priority to be able to manage among a plant protection handbook increasingly lightweight, old and new phytosanitary problems but even more aggressive and an increasing demanding consumers that require more and more safety products with low residues and organic. About irrigation is essential to renew the information regarding the water needs of the major fruit crops as a result in particular of changes in climate.

Activities

The activities foreseen in the plan will concern the definition of containment strategies of pests of stone fruits and pome. Also it will be validated a new technology that, thanks to its degrading activity, helps break down the organic load of pesticides found in the solution allowing the re-use of waste water from cleaning of the instruments used for the execution of plant protection products. On irrigation it will be re-evaluated parameters on the water needs of pome and stone fruits, for updating DPI. It will also be implemented in IRRInet system with new classes of each species as defined by the project.

Pratice abstract
Description

Stone fruit and pome fruit species are widely cultivated in Emilia Romagna region. Many orchards are located in sensitive landscape areas consequently it is very important to develop and improve pest and desease management strategies that involve and enhance the use of low environmental impact products/techniques. Also the reduction of pollution consequent to crop protection practices is a relevant issue in order to improve the quality of water andsoil. Several innovation validated will be very useful for both Integrated and Organic production systems.
Furthermore the outcomes will be used also to upgrade the Integrated Production guidelines (DPI) of the Emilia Romagna region for example related to different candidates for substitution like for example copper based products, thanks to the evaluation to replace them totally or partially with more safety or natural products.
The innovation brought by the use of IRRAOP device will generate important effects, like time saving and recycling of water, with a positive economical impact on the farms involved in the GO. The ability to break down the organic load due to pesticides in the water coming from the cleaning practices of sprayers after their use, in fact, will enable the users to recycling the water left for other farm purpouses like irrigation.
The updating of some main parameters related to water needs of fruit trees at the different phenological phases will lead to improve irrigation information technology (IRRInet) or traditional (DPI) in order to saving water and/or optimizing its use during irrigation practices.
