PEI-AGRI

Pilot program to promote the sequestration and conservation of carbon in the Apennine beech forests and coniferous forests

Obiettivi
Objectives

The general objective of the project is the experimental verification of the efficacy of silvicultural interventions to optimize the functions of sequestration and storage of carbon (in wood and soil) in the Apennine beech forests and in artificial reforestation of conifers.
The project intends to develop good management practices to be transferred to forest areas with similar characteristics and to promote and enhance (economically) the ecosystem services of forests by developing the voluntary carbon credit market at local level.

Activities

The achievement of the objectives will be guaranteed by activities carried out in a coordinated and coherent way:
1. preliminary study of the main variables that characterize forest complexes;
2. carrying out forest interventions;
3. estimation / monitoring of the variation of the "C" stock, of the quality of the soil and of the ecosystem complexity in the areas subjected to utilization interventions;
4. definition of the best use practices for the purpose of maximizing the C storage function;
5. promotion of "C" credits on the voluntary market.
