PEI-AGRI

Demonstrative project for the horticulture Extension of the areas in the Veneto

Obiettivi
Objectives

The aim of the AMOR demonstration project is to experiment (as way for demonstrating its effectiveness) in 4 Veneto areas located in the foothill area, one agronomic innovation called "continued seasonalizing", which is a sort of "seasonalization" stretched along twelve months of some horticultural products that are traditionally cultivated in the Veneto only in a few months of the year (Radicchi veneti, sugarloaf chicory, cabbage, chinese cabbage and potato) using land: plain, medium hill and foothill, that are currently under expolited or abandoned.

Activities

4 farms will conduct for 3 crop years continuous seasonalizing trials in the foothills and hillsides, verifying the yield, productivity and economic-financial sustainability of annual crops for some of the major quality horticultural products of Veneto.
The possibility of cultivating traditional, but also innovative species for the land, and widening the cultivation at different times of the year, represents an important innovation of the production chain, with relevant commercial implications up to the involvement of final consumers. The project will also look at market scenarios to show the profitability of the investment in the Veneto horticulture sector.

Pratice abstract
Description

The expected results of the project are:
1. to experiment and demonstrate the advantages of an extended "seasoning",  supporting the requalification of unused or abandoned areas;
2. through the examination of the results obtained and the comparison with the traditional values, to evaluate all the sensitive aspects in the agricultural activity with the ultimate aim of placing the products on the market, all year round and at profitable prices, increasing the chances of income for the farms involved;
3. develop protocols (guidelines) for horticultural production in marginal / different environments;
4. develop databases to support horticultural companies, regarding the quality of continued seasonalising productions, in order to demonstrate the convenience of this innovative agronomic protocol, that is able to add value and to increase the income for the primary production system.
