PEI-AGRI

Integrated digital platforms to develop logging technology companies

Obiettivi
Objectives

IT-FOR aims to overcome the difficulty of marketing wood, a problem identified by Veneto forestry companies. These, due to structural and managerial deficiencies, are found to sell off and to not promote economically the processed wood. The project involves the creation of a platform for the marketing of timber, and, at the same time, the collection of data to increase safety at work and enhance timber and timber-products' traciability, promoting real entrepreneurial competition. The platform will aim to be flexible to adapt to the different sizes of operators in the forest-wood sector.

Activities

The project activity is divided into working phases, and subdivided into actions set on an interactive management method. The actions are summarized as follows: "plan and do", "check and action" and "dissemination activities". The main action includes comparison between partners for setting the activities; involvement of public and private forest owners; analysing and plan the basic platform architecture and software development. The second action consists in involving public and private owners and structuring stakeholders for the implementation of the platform and the creation of dedicated applications. A third phase is included to present the results obtained.

Pratice abstract
Description

The IT-FOR Operational Group (OG) has been established from a previous experience of innovation brokering on a greater number of partners due to the previous positive networking activity. The development of effective synergies and integrations between different economic sectors and institutional components due to the multidisciplinary of the OG will be the bases for an innovative integrated digital platform for the local wood sector. The OG has as its primary objective the overcoming of the difficulty of commercialization of the local wood by the forestry enterprises which, due to structural and managerial failures, find themselves selling off not to exploit the processed timber economically. The OG aims to create a modular and multi-measure system for the supply and sale of timber. The system should become a collector of data provided by companies through appropriate smartphone and tablet applications. Again, the management of the building site, aimed at increasing occupational safety and useful traceability of timber, allowing free and real entrepreneurial competition. The platform will aim to be as flexible as possible, adapting to both structured forest companies, individual companies and farms operating in the forest-wood sector.
The main outcomes expected are a digital reference point for the regional wood market and a cloud system for smartphones and tablets.

Description

The main results and outcomes expected from the project in question consist are several. First of all, the creation and launch of a strategic digital reference point for wood and timber marketing, aiming for greater coordination between the actors along the supply-chain, especially at regional level, with consequent liveliness of the market; then positive economic repercussions on the local forest sector, at the moment weak and poorly structured, with enhanced competitiveness, better capacity and economic stability, promotion of cooperation among the enterprises, due to the regularization of productivity, which will motivate them to undertake paths of necessary innovation. Morever, to strengthen the supply chain and local markets with a short supply chain, mitigation of climate change effects and reduction of pollution along with the increasing stimulus into adopting active and sustainable management practices for both public and private properties by improving and increasing governance. To increase wood mobilization allowing continuous availability of wood resources from public and private forests. To contrast to the phenomena of abandonment and marginalization of rural areas by developing and promoting youth employment. To provide a cloud system of applications for smartphones, tablets and portable devices tested and adapted to the forest sector business. Ultimately, the project aims to increase and improve the competitiveness of forest enterprises and achieve a series of indirect effects, through a logic of maximizing all the wood assortments using a cascade approach, obtaining a series of positive effects to wide range.
