PEI-AGRI

Development of a novel precision system for removing, check and control of phytosanitary problems in greenhouse crops

Obiettivi
Objectives

a) definition of a new approach in plant protection for greenhouses horticultural and flower production, based on early detection and early management of pests and diseases
b) implementation and testing of new sustainable treatments applied to seeds and plants inported in greenhouses
c) implementation and testing of new remote control systems for greenhouse horticultural and flower production, based on the integration of new instruments with software tools developed on purpose
d) reduction in the use of plant protection products applied in greenhouse crops management;

Activities

The project is aimed at solving a critical aspect in greenhouse cultivation: the increasing difficulty in controlling and preventing damages from pest, fungal and bacterial parasites in both horticultural and potted plants. In these project innovative tools will be used to applied: treatment of incoming nursery material (cuttings) to reduce pests and pathogens import with cultivating area (atmospheric plasma technology, exclusively based on physical means); remote sensing with optical instruments and software for interpreting crop vegetation indices.

Pratice abstract
Description

At present, producers are facing growing difficulties in controlling pathogens and pests of horticultural crops by means of synthetic pesticides. Such stringent problem is at the basis of the Operative Group, which is aimed at verifying on a farm scale the possibility of applying new methods for control and prevention, based on two different approaches:
a) new methods of disinfection of incoming nursery material based on plasma technology: the system is intended to reduce the pathogenic load of incoming cuttings, therefore allowing a control which is preliminary to the greenhouse cultivation phase.
b) monitoring sensors and precision distribution technologies suited for greenhouse application: the systems are intended identification of stressed plants, therefore allowing localized and reduced treatments
The Operative Group proposed by Gruppo Padana Ortofloricoltura, aims to provide the nursery producers with a new system of containment, early diagnosis and control of major adversities, such as ubiquitous phytophagous insects and fungal parasites, which currently cause increasing problems, with significant damage to production
The activity of the proposed G.O. will produce and implement an applicative technological solution that can be used in greenhouse crops (horticultural and floriculture) both by the producers or by technicians responsible for production.
Such applicative solution will be developed with a modular approach, including several levels with different degrees of precision and complexity, in order to take into account the different types of specialized farms in the flower and horticultural sector of the Veneto Region. Results will be shared with National Rural Network, EIP Agri and Veneto Region channel.
