Objectives

D.E.M.E.TRA. it is a "hardware free" system in which technology does not materially impact production and does not overload the administrative management of the agricultural supply chain company. Applied to agriculture, it applies as a system that responds to the need to guarantee the origin and authenticity of the product purchased. It is based on the fusion of two technologies: BLOCKCHAIN & SATELLITE the starting data is acquired and certified by the satellite system and made incorruptible by the blockchain.

Results

in Q3 2020 the first MILESTONE is released relating to the study of the "SOCIAL AND TECHNOLOGICAL" context.
The agronomic practices implemented by the DE CARLO ANTONIO company were surveyed and then compared with possible software solutions to support the management of the farm. This activity defined the first specific objective of the D.E.M.E.TRA project. that is, the blockchain notarization of the "Quaderno di Campagna" with the advantage for each actor in the supply chain a simpler, safer and more complete monitoring activity.
The investigation of production techniques and the impact of precision farming in hazelnut cultivation made it possible to define the second specific project objective, namely the blockchain notarization of the "Mass Balance". The calculation is based on the processing of satellite images and on particular indices such as "vigor indices".

in Q1 of 2021 the design activity is completed with the publication of the FUNCTIONAL ANALYSIS.
Report through which the characteristics of the D.E.M.E.TRA demonstrator were identified. and how to implement the traceability service. The actors, products and processes involved in the project were identified and detailed. In particular, a macro-process has been associated with each identified actor and sub-processes and products have been associated with each macro-process.
Compared to the partners of the G.O. D.EM.E.TRA. the entities operating on the supply chain have been qualified:
- farm for the cultivation of hazelnuts (DE CARLO ANTONIO farm);
- company for the transformation of the hazelnut primary product (ITALNOCCIOLA);
- company in the supply chain that deals with product distribution (012Factory).

in Q3 of 2021 the second MILESTONE is reached, ie the release of the first version of the demonstrator and the start of a test phase, for the verification and validation of the platform's functionality and compliance with the requirements. The tests were carried out internally thanks to the involvement and participation of the members of the G.O. D.E.M.E.TRA.

in Q2 of 2022 the project is about to close and a cycle of seminars and workshops have been planned to disseminate the project results

Activities

We will aim to integrate innovative systems based on enabling technologies (Earth observation, IoT, Big data, Blockchain) able to support the subjects in the production processes connected to the cultivation cycle and hazelnut complexes.

Context

Although the application of satellite technology guarantees the proposed solution high replicability and adaptability to different products and territorial areas, specifically, the development of the Operational Innovation Project involves an application for the hazelnut chain in Campania. The proposal adapts to the evolution logics of the "Industry 4.0" production processes by offering companies in the sector a safe, reliable and transparent system, based on unselectable data, to enhance the territoriality and authenticity of Made in Italy products both as a fight against counterfeiting and to combat dumping in prices created by foreign products in the form of fake Italians. Furthermore, the context is particularly favorable for the implementation of the project proposal which finds broad compatibility with the aims of the "The Extraordinary Italian Taste" brand promoted by MIPAAF to support and enhance the export of food and agriculture (the goal is to reach the value of 50 billion in 2020) and to counter the phenomenon of Italian sounding which penalizes above all excellence such as PDO and PGI brand products of which Italy is the first country in Europe for the number of certified agri-food products. On a regional scale, the proposed initiative is proposed as an innovative solution to contribute to the implementation of the strategy for the sustainable and inclusive development of the Campania context. With reference to RIS3, the proposed solution straddles two Technological Areas: "Traceability of agri-food products" "Real-time monitoring of soil and climatic characteristics" naturally related to the Priority Technological Trajectory of the Agri-food sector.

Description

D.E.M.E.TRA. it is based on the fusion of two technologies: BLOCKCHIAN & SATELLITE the starting data is acquired and certified by the satellite system and made incorruptible by the blockchain. Through the analysis and processing of satellite images it is possible to quantify the maximum producibility of a given product grown in a given agricultural lot. The ability to extract this information, from satellite images, represents the killer application of the system as it guarantees that the traceability process begins with an unimaginable datum, acquired in an entirely autonomous and independent way from the manufacturer, and certified by satellite technology itself.
