Technical customization and tuning of innovative technologies for fertirrigation of maize crops with low environmental impact
The general aim of the project is to implement the sustainability of maize in Emilia-Romagna region, by means of the application of technologies characterized by low environmental impact. The specific aim is to optimize the conversion indices of water, fertilizers, pesticides, energy and organic fertility, reducing their relative inputs and evaluating the performances.
The activities are:
a) Implementation of sustainable techniques to improve the water efficiency and weed control; drip-irrigation, mulching, and seeders with biodegradable materials.
b) Identification of sustainable techniques tp improve fertirrigation:evaluation of EPD fertilizers and fertirrigation by drip-line.
c) The project will be completed with the coordination activity of the Operational Group, an a articulated plain of dissemination (video, meeting, Web App, guideline).
The expected results are the creation of a multidisciplinary and adaptable model, innovative and characterized by high environmental sustainability for the maize supply-chain, suitable for organic crops.
The main target are the associated farmers of PROGEO S.C.A., besides all the maize farmers to whom the new technologies may be transferred and spread, to obtain a quantitative reduction of agricultural inputs (water, fertilizers, pesticides, energy and organic fertility of the soil) through the integration and combination of innovative technologies of drip fertirrigation and eco-degradable mulching.
The effects on the whole maize cultivation system are performed through the use of the specific toolset realized through the new “on field” customized processes, which will better characterize and improve the supply-chain.
The protection of the biodiversity will be otained through the conservation of the beneficial insect fauna, by means of the reduction of pesticide inputs.
The direct and indirect positive effects will positively affect the health of consumers and the health of the whole food chain. The feed obtained by the methods implemented in this project will contribute to improve the environmental impact of the food production system on the territory, by reduction of pesticide inputs.
