Implementation and validation of innovative plant protection methods to increase environmental sustainability of organic sugar beet production.
The overall objective of the project is to develop innovative biocontrol strategies with high environmental sustainability for sugar beet in organic farming, obtaining as a result of rationalizing water resources, plant protection pesticides, enhancing ecosystem services with an environmental advantage but also economic through innovative tools of biological control that determine the exploitation of useful biodiversity, with the use of innovative biological, microbiological formulations against pest and diseases, the use of cover crops with benefits on biodiversity and on water saving.
"The activities will be as follows:
- coordination of the activity and management of the operational team.
- Management of cercospora leaf spot (CLS), use of growth promoters (PGPR), control of wireworms, identification of more competitive varieties against weeds, use of metagenomics for monitoring microbial biodiversity in sugar beet in organic sugar beet production;
- Dissemination, information and training. These activities include the development of a website, an application tool, a visit to organic farms, an intermediate and final technical meeting, guidelines and a video for farmers."
The project come from the growing attention of consumers to the origin and sustainable production methods of agri-food products and the increased propensity of markets to pay for the product at quality compared to conventional, on the national, Union and international market.
