"Talented" Trentino Agriculture-forestry
The project aims to experiment and promote innovative use of the forest resources, implementing the use in agriculture of products based on these resources. Indeed, the project's main goal is to develop textils made by cellulose fibers that can be used as ropes and networks during the cultivation operations (like binding and packaging). Thanks to wood fibers is possible to optain products completely biodegradable. This means that the project tries to replace products made by fossil origin material and to implement the use of local and sustainable resources.
The project works on 4 activities. The first one aims to sensitize and increase the knowledge of farmer and society about the application of bioeconomy. At the same time this activity studies the features of products made by cellulose fiber already known. The second activity is about an industrial research of the different kind of cellulose fibers obtained by alpine coniferous and their biophysical characteristics. The third one predicts to develop new packaging and products made by cellulose fibers. The last activity amis to spread and to inform about the concept, the idea and the results achived by the project.
The increasing collective awareness of environmental and social sustainability issues, the need of using as less plastic materials as possible and the particular economic context of Trentino were the basis of the project. The main aim is to develop a virtuous supply chain, able to combine the farm needs with the respect for the environment. In this way it is possible to valorize the local resources and to develop biodegradable products directly usable in agricultre. In particular the project aims to produce materials such as fibers, fabrics and materials for crop ligation and packaging. The production of materials made by cellulose fibers uses a third of energy and 60 times less water than the same production of cotton fabric. In this way it is possible to give importance to the link between product and territory, enhancing the great Trentino forest resource and bringing the attention that the farmer puts on the farm directly on the final products.
