Innovations and water saving measures for orange orchards through precision agriculture techniques
The project has as its main objective the transfer to citrus farms of innovative precision agriculture protocols with specific reference to the efficient management of water resources to be used for water supply. The project involves the promotion and implementation of techniques that favor: the reduction of crop water consumption, the spread of rootstock / cultivar combinations suitable for the application of deficient irrigation strategies, the reduction of energy waste in irrigation, the recovery of exploitable by-products of the production chain, the reuse of waste water for irrigation.
"The objectives that the project intends to pursue are listed below:
- Disseminate deficit irrigation protocols for citrus crops;
- Divulgate the innovations concerning the combination of rootstock/cultivars suitable for conditions of water scarcity;
- Transfer optimization protocols of energy resources in the management of irrigation systems;
- Transfer protocols of use of treated wastewater for irrigation of citrus crops;
- Transfer protocols for using citrus organic waste as a soil improver;
- Disseminate protocols of eco-sustainable marketing and marketing of the products."
