Innovations for the productive improvement of Margherita IGP onion.
The project aims at enhancing the commercial value and the competitiveness of the “Margherita White Onion PGI”. This process will pass through the fine-tuning of agronomical and post-harvest
techniques, favouring the use of environmental friendly innovations, with a specific reference to the
phases of: i) seed production; ii) direct planting and harvest; iii) low impact phytosanitary defence; iv)
drying and storage of bulbs.
1. Definition of the agronomic factors for the cultivation of (CBM) PGI selections from seed;
2. Optimization of agronomic practices;
3. Assessment of the susceptibility of CBM selections to biotic and abiotic adversities;
4. Definition of the protocol for data collection and analysis;
5. Calibration of the phenology and disease models of the onion.net TM DSS;
6. DSS activation, staff training, data quality control and remote support;
7. Validation of the Onion.net TM DSS on the White Onion of Margherita PGI;
8. Establishment of an adversity management program;
9. Forced drying out of range (curing);
10. Environmental impact assessment;
11. Supply chain analysis.
