Technical and agronomic innovation in organic viticulture and oenology
The goals of this project are:
• Reduce Copper use in vineyard protection from black mildew; in organic vineyards as a first goal, but with potential use also in conventional vineyards (copper treatments at season end); sprayings reduction will positively impact on grape production costs, on farm carbon balance, due to a reduced direct and indirect consumption of fossil fuel and on the vineyard environment;
• Reduce sulphite content in organic wines;
• Promote a positive image of organic wines obtained with methodologies even more environmentally sustainable.
The planned activities intend to develop:
a system that can determine the level of copper coverage of a vineyard with a non-destructive analysis, using chemical probes which in contact with the copper on the leaf take on colors of wavelength and intensity such that they can be detected with the camera and analyzed with modern image analysis techniques.
a continuous monitoring system of alcoholic fermentation: the WINEGRID monitoring system allows you to remotely and continuously monitor various parameters of the wine, allowing you to know in detail the fermentation phases and then use sulphites, only if necessary and precisely .
