Process innovation to increase the added value of hemp seed oil (Cannabis sativa L.)
The goals of the project include:
• encourage the cultivation of hemp in the Friuli region
• promote the development of a regional hemp cultivation and processing network
• apply green technologies to improve the extraction yield and the quality of hemp oil
• create a "geographical brand" for the enhancement of the oil produced with the application of the tested green technologies
• disseminate information related to the cultivation and processing of hemp and the results of the project
The main activities foreseen by the project include:
• the cultivation of hemp in the farms involved in the project, with the support of a technical-scientific consultant
• the study of the heat pre-treatment process of hemp seeds with microwave and oil discoloration with ultrasound, at the laboratories of the University of Udine
• the application of the best results obtained from the bleaching tests on a pilot plant
• the creation of a "geographical brand" for the food hemp supply chain of Friuli Venezia Giulia
• the promotion and dissemination of the project results
