INVESTIGATION ON IRRIGATION SYSTEMS AT THE TERRITORIAL LEVEL IN RESPONSE TO THE DEGENERATION OF PEAR PLANTS
The objective of the proposed Plan consists in identifying - in relation to the irrigation supplies at the
territorial level (irrigation systems, amount of supplies, quality of irrigation water, characteristics of
the groundwater, etc.), the plant systems adopted (rootstock, planting density, training system, etc.)
and to the climatic changes in progress - what factors are responsible and how they interact with each other, for the degeneration of numerous pear plants located in a large area of the regional territory; all this in order to deepen the knowledge on this serious and complex phenomenon and to provide the technicians and farmers concerned with specific guidelines to counter its spread.
In several farms specialized in the cultivation of pear trees, there are widespread and extensive
phenomena of plant deterioration, not attributable to a specific pathogen. One of the most accredited
hypotheses calls into question the climatic changes, which have induced many farms to carry out
irrigation surpluses, even in unsuitable lands and agronomic and productive situations, causing
suffering phenomena of some cultivars (Abate Fetel in primis) . The proposed Plan intends to
investigate the phenomenon by considering the rationalization of irrigation contributions, also on a
consortium and territorial scale, as central element of the problem.
