Fertility, environment and income through soil and biodiversity
the main objective is the evaluation - through three specific areas of investigation plus a cross-cutting one - of cultivation methods designed to enhance product quality, environmental protection, sustainability and company profitability. The three areas of study concern respectively: 1) the complexity of the population dynamics deriving from the adoption of certain species in multifunctional sowing; 2) the vision of the first area is extended to the cultivation choices; 3) evaluation of three different organic matrices for fertilisation; transversal area: characterisation of the microbiota
the four areas of research are organised with specific tests and surveys
agricultural production must evolve. It is no longer possible to "use" the soil, but it is necessary to interact with it in order to obtain the most important result for an agricultural producer of any foodstuff: healthy, nutritious food without toxic residues.
The project is a new holistic approach that links the quanti-qualitative parameters of production with the values of biodiversity, soil health and sustainability for environment and landscape. So far it has not been possible to discriminate the weight of oxidation of organic matter through processing in the balance sheet with the biomass contribution of green manure in different contexts. In the search for solutions that are incremental with respect to current knowledge, this approach also makes it possible to discover totally new interactions such as the link between the characteristics of wines and complex biodiversity on several levels. As an example, it is relevant that the choice of the essences destined to green manure, in addition to being evaluated for the conservation potential of the organic substance and the improvement of the soil structure, will also be related to the support towards a biodiversity of arthropods and other epigeal organisms potentially allied in parasite control and related to the survival and activity of mycoplasma vectors.
