Precision farming: reduction of the environmental impact of production systems
The project has the following objectives:
- creation of an intelligent and real-time monitoring system consisting of a smart IT platform integrated with the sensors in the field, able to support crop management in the optimization of nitrogen inputs;
- testing and validation of the spatialization model of regional agro-meteorological data;
- definition of new services and new business models;
- definition of economic and environmental indices that measure the benefits of precision farming techniques;
- definition of risk management and insurance models.
The main crops in the Marche region are essentially the following: cereals among arable crops and vineyards and olive groves among specialized plants The area cultivated with cereals decreases (from 43.4% of the UAA in 2000 to 38.6% in 2010) with the exception of durum wheat whose extension remains almost unchanged (just over 136 thousand hectares in 2010, from 27.8% of UAA in 2000 to 28.9% in 2010).
This means that the average area planted with durum wheat amounts to 135,000 ha
It should also be noted that previously indicated that durum wheat is one of the most representative crops of the Marche, the region is the third largest producer of durum wheat in Italy.
In total the AZ Agr present in the region are 44.866 (ISTAT 2010) of which half produce arable crops in rotation (22.500)
.The subjects indirectly interested are first of all the transformers starting from the stackers; in the brands there are 22 storage centers between cooperatives and production companies.
