Romagna Food Forest: low impact production system for the forest recovery
The main objective consists in the transfer of knowledge of a new “zero impact” agricultural system, exploiting marginal forest areas and following the principles of sustainability and permaculture technique and called “Food Forest”, mainly in Foreste Casentinesi National Park. The systems mentioned will be realized by implanting a forest composed of numerous species of food-producing plants that will reach a total balance with the environment.
The objective of the GOI is to use these systems in order to recovery forest areas, ensuring high environmental sustainability and developing the tourism and educational potential of food forest.
Zero impact and self-sufficient production systems will be set up, using the principles of permaculture in forest farm. In particular, we will test “Food Forest” as an innovative production systems. The food forest is an orchard-vegetable garden system, simulating a forest ecosystem on multiple layers (herbaceous, shrub and arboreal). The dissemination action, in addition to activities dedicated to experts, contains a series of events dedicated to a non-expert audience, with particular reference to school laboratories and events in the farm for families.
