Irrigation districts for sustainable re-use of the treated wastewaters: organizational models and innovative technologies

Obiettivi
Objectives

This GO project proposal provides for the irrigation reuse of treated wastewater through the
establishment of a wastewater reuse district capable of systematizing the different needs of the actors of the supply chain. The project has as its general objective the definition of an irrigation district located in an important agronomic context of Puglia: S. Severo - Torremaggiore in the province of Foggia. This district falls within the North Fortore irrigation area and is characterized by intensive arboreal and herbaceous cultivation systems, with medium-sized farms and high irrigation
consumption.

Activities

1. Establishment of an irrigation district of refined waters, in which refined and
traditional waters are used through a common distribution network;
2. Monitoring of water quality and use of Decision Support Systems (DSS) to develop
irrigation and farm fertilization programs based on the quality of available water;
3. Increase in the social acceptability of these types of waters;
4. Training of agricultural technicians, farmers and consultants, able to play an active
role in the reuse chain of refined waters
