Definition of a company handbook to implement good farming practices aimed to reduce the using of antibiotics in breeding of heavy pigs
The objectives of the projects is create a company handbook to implement good farming practices aimed to reduce the using of antibiotics and thus the onset of new antibioticsresistance in breeding of heavy pigs to fight the onset of new pathologies and create a way to help the breeders to improve animal welfare in their farms. In this way is also possible analyzing the amount of antibiotics used and what kinds of these are used in farms and create a database to know how we could intervene to prevent and reduce their use.
First step is the formation of the technicians and the farmers about the problems of the antibiotics resistance, the advantages of the correct use of this kind of drug and the explanations about the tecnichal aspects of this project. Second step expected the analysis of the amount and of the kinds of antibiotics used in their farms and the comparison with other data evaluated by other farms of our country. After this analysis will be created a personalized program for every single parrtner farm to reduce the use of the antibiotics. Third step will be the analysis of the data and the creation, depending on the results, of a company handbook of good farming practices.
The plan seeks to reduce the use of antibiotics in the GO farms by 20%. In order to meet the main objective, it is necessary to achieve secondary objectives as listed below: 1) Quantify the cosnum of antibiotics, using the Defined Daily Dose (DDD) standardized unit of measurement for the antibiotic molecules employed in 'Heavy breeding of heifers in the production stages. 2) To map the most important molecule types in breeding, crucial to defining future quantitative and qualitative reduction targets for each class of antibiotics. 3) Relate the use of the drug to the parameters of animal welfare and biosecurity. 4) To evaluate the effect of the reduction of armor in terms of company parameters. 5) Define and apply operational manuals for rational use of antibiotics in the company. The actions that will be characterized by project are divided into four phases. ACTION 1: Detection of antibiotic use in breeding associated with parameters of animal welfare and biosecurity;
ACTION 2 Analysis of correlation data between drug used, animal welfare and biosecurity;
ACTION 3: Applying corrective actions to partner farms in the Plan; ACTION 4: Creating an Operational Manual for actions to reduce the use of antibiotics in pig farming.
