PEI-AGRI

Innovative techniques for the cultivation and propagation of hops in the Marche region, for the preparation and conservation of the beer chain for food and nutraceutical use

Obiettivi
Objectives

The general objective is to create an important and new opportunity for the agricultural context of the Marche Region by developing the following activities:
a)protection and increase of biodiversity, sustainable management of water resource, identification of the most suitable hops cultivars; b) development of sustainable and low-impact cultivation techniques; c) qualitative analysis of the sprouts intended for fresh market and on flowers for brewing; d) development of innovative solutions for the conservation and packaging of sprouts and flowers; e) disclosure of information.

Activities
  • Realization of varietal evaluation implants with hop cultivars available on the market
  • Pheno-morphological, productive and qualitative evaluation of the different considered genotypes
  • Development of propagation and certification techniques of the best cultivars;
  • Adoption of low impact cultivation techniques
  • Testing of breeding systems and facilitating machines
  • Analytical control of technological quality and nutritional quality
  • Realization of a small implant for natural drying
  • Study and application of new packaging technologies

Pratice abstract
Description

"The project is already extremely innovative for the Marche area because the ""ordinary"" cultivation of hops does not currently exist. During the implementation of the food supply chain, innovative solutions will be introduced such as: selection and identification of the most suitable cultivars, development of propagation techniques for the  production of certified plants; development of low impact cultivation techniques.
To contain costs on harvesting and flower separation for brewing,  a prototype machine will be made suitable for small plants (max 1 hectare). The machinery will be realized on a single project and it will be tested in the experimental fields. For the cultivation phase of the hops dedicated to food-grade buds, new plant systems will be tested to research and optimize innovative breeding and harvesting methods, as well as innovative packaging and preservation techniques."
